Atexpats and You

By creating an account with Atexpats, you’ve privileged us as custodians of your personal information, and this is a responsibility that we take very seriously. This document has been prepared to fully inform you of our policies with regards to your personal and private data – we want to make sure that you’re aware of why and how we collect your information, what rights you have to manage it, and under what circumstances it could be released to any third parties.

This document may be updated from time to time, so we encourage you to check back whenever it’s important to you to understand your rights and protections as a user of our services, especially if you notice that our service has been changed or upgraded in a way that may bear impact on this policy.

Your account entitles you to use our services in ways that are relevant to you, and the way in which we deliver our services to you may be influenced by the information you provide – so that your experience continues to be just as relevant as you require. It’s very important that the information you provide about yourself is complete, true and accurate – this not only helps us to protect our services from abuse by misrepresentation, but it also keeps our services to you right on track.

Your Information

Different users tend to experience our services in different ways, at the core of which is the language of the interface you use and your location. This is largely why we collect information about you – it allows us to present you with a consistent and useful service, and it also provides us with statistical data that we can use to improve and extend our services in general.

There are a number of ways in which we collect and gain access to this information about you. Most of it comes from you directly – whenever you fill out a form on our site, type in search terms, click on certain links, or enter a comment about our content, this activity will be recorded against your account details and kept indefinitely (or until you specifically request for it to be deleted). Other information is collected automatically, based on data exchanged between your computer or device and our servers, or through technologies such as cookies (see below for more information about these).

While your information may predominantly be used to improve your experience of our services, it may also be drawn on to generate personalised communications with you, for purposes such as informing you about activity on your account or letting you know of any pending changes. It may also be used to select targeted advertisements to display to you while you’re logged in to our services, in the hope that you’ll be exposed to advertising that more closely relates to your interests than random ads would.

Your information may be aggregated with that of other users of Atexpats’ services to generate statistical data, which will help us to understand how our services are being used and what needs to be done to make things better and more secure for those who use our products. It may also be referred to in order to provide anonymous reporting for our internal and external clients.

Using cookies is a very common way for online services to behave consistently for individuals by storing specific information on their web-connected devices. Cookies (and a range of similar technologies) ensure that you are recognised when you connect to us, activating your preferences and enabling a personalised experience.

The Atexpats search engine regularly crawls websites to update and improve our data index. There are many factors that bear relevance on the way we store and present data, and a great deal of this depends on the information our site engine learns by crawling the web. We do place constraints on the way we search for and analyse data, and we respect international web conventions such as the Standard for Robot Exclusion designed to protect privacy of information. We strictly adhere to these standards to ensure no protected information is collected by our automatic processes.

Sharing and Disclosure

There are very limited circumstances under which we’d share your personal information with any third party. We do not sell or lease any personal user data to any outside organisation, although if that policy were ever to change, we’d never release any information which could be used to personally identify you without first asking and receiving your consent for us to do so. We may, from time to time, release anonymised, aggregated user data to another organisation, usually to demonstrate trends in usage of our services.

In the event that Atexpats is ever acquired by another business organisation, then your personal data will migrate to the new owners once the transition is made. If such a case were ever to occur, you will be given advance notice so that you can exercise the option of deleting your account information first if that’s what you want to do.

Atexpats may be legally required to disclose your personal information as a result of an enforceable court order or government request. We may also elect to disclose your information if we have reasonable cause to believe that doing so will prevent harm to the rights, property, or safety of Atexpats, our staff, our users, or the general public.

Managing Your Information

Most of the information we have on file about you will be accessible from your profile page. By logging in to Atexpats and browsing to your profile, you will be able to edit or remove your account details or even delete your account entirely. Any data you remove will be permanently deleted and cannot be restored.

You can remove any cookies saved on your computer by our servers through your browser settings, where you may also elect not to allow any further cookies to be received. You may also temporarily avoid the use of cookies altogether by enabling the privacy mode in your browser. Please refer to your browser help files for further information.

If you would like to opt out of promotional mailings from us, you can set this on your profile page or by following the instructions in any such messages you have already received.

Please be aware that it’s one of our requirements that any information you do choose to share with us is accurate and truthful. Providing false account information, particularly with express purpose to impersonate or deceive, is likely to result in your account being deleted. Security and Confidentiality

While your data will be stored on our servers, we limit the number of Atexpats staff who may have access to user information solely to those people whose work is necessary to ensure the proper maintenance and provision of our services. Such staff are bound by strict confidentiality agreements to ensure non-disclosure of such information.

Protecting Atexpats from unauthorised access or attacks is one of our absolute top priorities, and we maintain physical, electronic, technological, cryptological, and procedural safeguards in order to keep our user data safe from theft or abuse.

A crucial factor in the security of your account for which you must assume personal responsibility is your password. Atexpats urges you never to share or reveal your password to any third party – you should be aware that anyone who has knowledge of your password besides yourself could potentially gain full, unrestricted access to any and all data that you’ve shared with Atexpats. Atexpats is unable to guarantee the security of your data if you allow your password to fall into the hands of others. Please take the upmost care to protect it.

Data Lifespan

Atexpats does not periodically remove inactive user accounts or delete user data from our servicers. Any information you share with Atexpats will remain on our servers indefinitely or until such time as you delete your account information.
